MCU in ACTION: Megan Simmons, Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity & Opportunity is speaking today at the Times Square Celebration of the PUMP Act event. Joining @momsrising, the ACLU, @Center for WorkLife Law, the US Breastfeeding Committee and The Honorable Carolyn Maloney and more to celebrate this important protection for breastfeeding and chestfeeding parents.
As midwives, we believe in empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their birth and postpartum experience as an avenue for change. Midwives champion a holistic approach to perinatal care including nutritional support and act as advocates for the overall well being of mothers, infants, and families.
As advocates for perinatal health and well-being, promoting a nurturing work environment that recognizes the unique needs of new mothers aligns seamlessly with our core values of compassionate care and supports our dedication to the physical, emotional and social welfare of mothers, birthing people and infants. We applaud the collaborative efforts of the healthcare providers, policymakers and institutions who are crucial to the PUMP Act’s successful implementation. Breastfeeding and chest feeding is a natural process that should not be stigmatized. We firmly believe in improving outcomes through increasing access to support and resources and recognizing birth as a normal, physiologic process.
